  • Brian Lawes

    Inside Sales Executive

Brian was born in Sidcup and raised in the Medway towns of Kent. Married for 17 years to Emma, they now reside with 6 year old son, Harry, in Walderslade.

Brian has worked in the paper industry for 28 years, the last 7 of which have been with us at Denmaur. Prior to that he worked at a sports centre as an instructor and as a life guard. The sports theme continues in the form of league standard table tennis – in his youth, Brian represented Kent.

When he isn't being Del Trotter on eBay or getting overexcited watching Storage Wars on television, Brian likes to enjoy the occasional curry and beer indulgence with family and friends. Otherwise, a lot of his spare time is devoted to young Harry and his involvement in a variety of activities including sports, parties and weekends at Legoland and Chessington.

  • How did you get into the industry?

My mate's Dad was the Branch Manager at Robert Horne in London.

If you weren't a paper merchant, what do you think you'd have done instead?

    Sports coach.

In the film Denmaur who would play you (any actor, living or dead)?

    Will Smith.

If you could have a slap-up lunch with any person/persons (again, can be alive or dead), who would you choose?

The cast of 'League of Their Own' – James Corden, Freddie Flintoff, Jamie Redknapp and Jack Whitehall – think it would be a great laugh.

Can you tell us your favourite fact about Denmaur?

Still an independent merchant and not part of a large group which is so much better.

Can you tell us an interesting/unusual fact about yourself?

Used to play table tennis for Kent.

What's the best piece of advice you'd give to the younger version of yourself?

Never look back always look ahead and enjoy every day. Oh yes and play more golf.

What is the best thing about what you do at Denmaur?

    The banter.

If we were to give you £10 to place on a long-shot bet, what would it be?

Liverpool to win the Premiership and the Champions League next season and England to win the Rugby World Cup in the same year.

If we were to give you £1,000 to donate to charity, which would it be?

    Any Children's charity.

If you won £10,000,000 on the lottery, what would be on top of your shopping list (assuming family, friends, charitable donations & long-shot bets have been covered)?

Aston Martin DBS and tickets to go and see all the England Rugby World cup games in Japan.

What would be your specialised subject on Mastermind?

    80's and 90's music.

Who (and why) would be your phone a friend on Who wants to be a millionaire?

Any one of the 'chasers' from the programme 'The Chase' for obvious reasons.

Why should we continue to use paper?

To encourage our children to read and write rather than just using a screen.

Why should people buy paper from Denmaur?

People buy from people and we have some of the best in the business.

If we were to give you £1,000 to donate to charity, which would it be?

    Children's cancer.

If you won £10,000,000 on the lottery, what would be on top of your shopping list (assuming family, friends, charitable donations & long-shot bets have been covered)?

It would have to be a large villa in Barbados overlooking the Caribbean sea.

What would be your specialised subject on Mastermind?

    Music from the seventies.

Who (and why) would be your phone a friend on Who wants to be a millionaire?

Kevin from Eggheads – is there anything that guy doesn't know!

Why should we continue to use paper?

Because it's tactile, sustainable and a laptop is no good in the toilet!

Why should people buy paper from Denmaur?

Because we appreciate our customers' orders far more than the competition will ever do!
