Throughout April we have been promoting the award winning Delipac Food and drinks packaging grade. Certified as plastic free, Delipac is completely recyclable, compostable and bio-degradable - very strong selling points against the PE lined equivalents that aren't able to possess these attributes.
Furthermore, Delipac is also certified as PFAS free and this is something you will see more of in the future
PFAS (per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances) is a collection of man-made chemicals, also referred to as 'forever chemicals', used in a wide range of consumer and industrial products - including packaging.
The trouble with PFAS chemicals is their ability to remain intact in the environment (air, land and water), and now there is evidence that some PFAS chemicals can be harmful to human health.
It is starting to make international headlines including a recent article from Ellen Brockovich (remember the Julia Roberts film?), and the much talked about film, Dark Waters, released in 2020. It is banned from food packaging in Denmark with steps being taken throughout from the EU and the USA to phase out PFAS.
So, being certified as PFAS free is a hugely important aspect of the Delipac grade, providing the assurance to users that their contents won't be contaminated and their packaging won't contaminate once discarded.
