  • Carbon Balanced Paper offers customers and end-users a simple, valid and measurable way to reduce the carbon impacts of their printed media and communications.

A simple and transparent solution for balancing (offsetting) the production emissions of graphical paper and board, as well as carton board, Carbon Balanced Paper provides a direct investment into the regeneration and conservation activates of the World Land Trust (WLT).

Many of the products within Denmaur's stock portfolio are Carbon Balanced at Source. This means the mill of manufacture funds the cost of offsetting so there is no additional cost to you at point of sale. All other paper and board products purchased from Denmaur can be Carbon Balanced at a small additional cost.

    Endorsement

An official certificate is available from World Land Trust to confirm the amount of carbon that has been balanced and area of land protected through your choice of paper or board. It is worth noting that WLT certificates can be awarded directly to printers or, on their behalf, to their customers.

An independent website www.carbonbalancedpaper.com provides details of the process and the projects supported under the Carbon Balanced Paper programme.

  • How it Works

  • Carbon Measurement 1

The carbon footprint of paper and board production is measurable. For several years, mills have submitted annual Paper Profiles and (more recently) Environmental Product Declarations to confirm the greenhouse gas emissions associated with all aspects of their production process.

The average carbon emissions for European graphical paper and board, as well as European carton board, are aggregated and verified independently. It is these figures that are used for the purposes of Carbon Balancing.

  • Carbon Measurement 2

The Carbon Balanced Paper programme supports specific World Land Trust projects focused on preserving standing forests in some of the most important vulnerable areas with the richest biodiversity around the world.

The projects combine regenerative, restorative and conservation processes based on the REDD+ framework (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, the "+" signifies the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks.) This is considered to be one of the most effective ways of measurably removing atmospheric carbon emissions. In addition to significantly enhancing natural carbon absorption, the projects prevent carbon release, whilst protecting and conserving essential habitats for important biodiversity and endangered wildlife.

  • Balancing the Equation

Carbon Balancing is achieved by offsetting the carbon emissions of 1 tonne of paper/board manufacture (including raw material acquisition) with 1 tonne of avoided or removed CO2 through the Carbon Balanced Paper programme.

  • Carbon Balanced Print

Carbon Balanced Print is exclusively offered by leading environmentally focused printers who have offset the carbon emissions generated by their printing process and use Carbon Balanced Paper.

There are currently in excess of 77 Carbon Balanced Printers in the UK. These are printers who have had their operational carbon footprint measured, independently verified and offset through the World Land Trust.

  • About World Land Trust

The World Land Trust (WLT) is a renowned international conservation charity establish in 1989, committed to safeguarding the world's most threatened and biologically rich habitats. The organisation' primary goal is to protect and sustainably manage land to conserve biodiversity and maintain ecosystem services, essential for the health of our planet.

  •
  • World Land Trust's Mission

WLT achieves its mission by purchasing land and collaborating with local conservation partners. This strategic approach ensures the long-term protection of critical habitats, ranging from tropical rainforests in South America to dry forests in Africa and grasslands in Asia. By protecting these areas, WLT helps preserve endangered species, prevent habitat loss, and maintain ecological balance.

In addition to land acquisition, WLT is actively involved in habitat restoration projects, reforestation efforts, and the implementation of Carbon Balancing initiatives. These initiatives allow businesses and individuals to offset their carbon emissions by supporting conservation projects, contributing to the fight against climate change and protect some of the richest biodiversity and endangered species in the world today.

WLT's work also focuses on empowering local communities, promoting sustainable livelihoods and raising awareness about the importance of conservation. Through education and community engagement, WLT fosters a sense of stewardship and encourages on-going sustainable practices for future generations.
