  • Carbon Balanced Paper - A Sustainable Choice

Carbon Balanced Paper offers a simple, transparent and measurable way to reduce the carbon footprint of printed materials. By balancing the carbon emissions from the production of paper, board and carton board, this initiative supports the regeneration and conservation work of the World Land Trust (WLT) in some of the most important areas of the planet.

Many products in Denmaur's portfolio are Carbon Balanced at Source, meaning the balancing process is funded by the manufacturer, not by the customer. Other products can also be Carbon Balanced for a surprisingly inexpensive fee, making it easy for businesses to integrate sustainability into their print and packaging decisions.

    Endorsement

A registered Carbon Balanced Paper logo can be used on artwork that uses Carbon Balanced paper.

An official certificate is available from World Land Trust to confirm the amount of carbon that has been balanced and area of land protected through your choice of paper or board. It is worth noting that WLT certificates can be awarded directly to printers or, on their behalf, to their customers.

An independent website www.carbonbalancedpaper.com provides details of the process and the projects supported under the Carbon Balanced Paper programme.

  • How it Works

  • Measuring the carbon emissions of paper and board

The carbon footprint of paper and board production is measurable.

For several years, mills have submitted annual Paper Profiles and (more recently) Environmental Product Declarations to confirm the greenhouse gas emissions associated with all aspects of their production process. It is the average carbon emissions for European graphical paper and board production that is used in the Carbon Balanced Paper mechanism.

  • Measuring the conservation activities

The Carbon Balanced Paper programme funds conservation projects run by the World Land Trust (WLT). These projects focus on preserving and regenerating standing forests that also serve as the habitat of endangered wildlife and biodiversity.

WLT projects are based on the REDD+ framework (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation). REDD+ is recognised as a measurable and immediate process for countering atmospheric carbon emissions through the:

prevention of further carbon release by protecting existing forests

enhancement of natural carbon absorption through reforestation

conservation critical habitats for endangered species

promotion of sustainable forest management activities.

This REDD+ approach delivers measurable climate benefits while safeguarding some of the world's most ecologically important landscapes.

  • Balancing the Equation

Carbon Balancing is achieved by offsetting the carbon emissions of paper/board production through a WLT project.

  • Carbon Balanced Print

There are currently more than 77 certified Carbon Balanced Printers in the UK. These are printers who have had their operational carbon footprint measured, verified and then balanced by World Land Trust.

Carbon Balanced Print is exclusively offered by Carbon Balanced Printers and achieved when using Carbon Balanced Paper.

  • About World Land Trust

World Land Trust is a renowned international conservation charity establish in 1989, committed to safeguarding the world's most threatened and biologically rich habitats. The organisation's primary goal is to protect and sustainably manage land in order to conserve biodiversity and maintain ecosystem services, essential for the health of our planet.

  •
  • World Land Trust's Mission

WLT achieves its mission by purchasing land and collaborating with local conservation partners. This strategic approach ensures the long-term protection of critical habitats, ranging from tropical rainforests in South America to dry forests in Africa. By protecting these areas, WLT helps preserve endangered species, prevent habitat loss and maintain ecological balance.

In addition to land acquisition, WLT is actively involved in habitat restoration projects, reforestation efforts and the implementation of Carbon Balancing initiatives. These initiatives allow businesses and individuals to offset their carbon emissions by supporting conservation projects, contributing to the fight against climate change and protecting some of the richest biodiversity and endangered species in the world today.

WLT's work also focuses on empowering local communities, promoting sustainable livelihoods and raising awareness about the importance of conservation. Through education and community engagement, WLT fosters a sense of stewardship and encourages on-going sustainable practices for future generations.
