  • Sustainability compliance at Denmaur extends across both the way we operate as a business and the paper, board and related products we place on the market. As environmental regulation continues to develop in the UK and Europe, our objective is to maintain a robust, transparent and evidence-based approach to compliance throughout our operations and supply chain.

  • At company level, our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System provides a framework for identifying environmental aspects, risks, legal requirements and other compliance obligations. Compliance is periodically evaluated, with environmental incidents and non-conformities recorded and corrective actions implemented where required.

Responsible sourcing is fundamental to product compliance. Denmaur maintains FSC® and PEFC chain-of-custody certification, promoting certified, recycled and renewable fibre and supporting sustainable forest management and biodiversity. Suppliers are subject to proportionate, risk-based due diligence and may be required to provide certification, environmental performance information and other supporting evidence.

Importantly, Denmaur suppliers are required to adhere to our official Supplier Code of Conduct, helping us maintain a transparent, responsible and fully compliant supply chain. We expect suppliers to demonstrate appropriate environmental, social and ethical standards and to provide evidence supporting the regulatory and sustainability credentials of the products they supply.

Product compliance is becoming increasingly complex. Denmaur monitors relevant UK and international legislation, including the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) where applicable, supporting traceability and due diligence intended to demonstrate that relevant fibre-based products originate from legal and deforestation-free supply chains. We also provide compliance requirements relating to the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), including those relating to recyclability, recycled content, resource efficiency and circularity.

Chemical compliance is another important consideration. This includes applicable requirements concerning substances of concern and PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), particularly for paper and board intended for packaging or food-contact applications. We work with suppliers to obtain appropriate technical declarations, certifications and supporting evidence so customers can make informed product choices.

Compliance also extends to how sustainability is communicated. Environmental claims concerning carbon, recyclability, recycled content, responsible sourcing and certification must be accurate, transparent, specific, substantiated and verifiable, with consideration given to the UK Green Claims Code and relevant European requirements, including EmpCo.

  • For Denmaur, sustainability compliance is therefore not a single certification or regulation. It is an ongoing process of due diligence, traceability, supplier engagement, documented evidence, monitoring and continual improvement – providing greater confidence in both our business and the products we supply.
